Understand the language of art in the pulse of life
When art is no longer confined to gallery walls but seamlessly integrated into everyday living spaces, it gains a more vibran and dynamic vitality. From November 18 to December 17, 2024, the works of artist Liu Ke are on display at the PABLO Gallery. The harmoniousinterplay between his art and the space offers viewers a visual feast where art meets life.
Liu Ke is a significant figure in contemporary Chinese abstract art, known for his captivating and unique approach tocreation. Using vertical lines to construct his compositions, he explores the tension between objects and space through layers of coverage and compression. In his works, the profound fissures and intriguing colors created by the collision of lines and blocks form a pathway to a deeper spiritual dimension, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the vortex of abstract art. Each of Liu Ke's pieces intricately outlines the emotions and energy of life through the interplay of colors and lines. As he aptly puts it, "Abstract symbols are the language of life; they are not only an expression on canvas but also a reflection of emotions deep within the soul."

1976 年生于湖南宁乡，2003 年毕业于广州美术学院油画系。现为广州美术学院教授、绘画艺术学院副院长、油画系主任，中国美术家协会综合材料绘画艺委会副主任，盒子美术馆执行馆长。Born in 1976 in Ningxiang, Hunan, Liu Ke graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2003. He is currently a professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Vice Dean of the School of Painting Arts, and Head of the Oil Painting Department. He also serves as the Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Materials Painting Art Committee of the China Artists Association and the Executive Director of the Box Art Museum.
他用竖线条进行创作，限定在竖线条的关系中通过反复的覆盖而相互挤压，意图让观众可以意识到物体与空间之间潜在的张力。创作时采用的逐步分割的方法，画面经密集的纵线分割之后，转向覆盖，缝隙越来愈少，缝隙凝聚更集中的力量，通过垂直或水平的块的碰撞揭示能量。抽象符号和奇妙色彩使观者穿梭于神秘而深邃的艺术「漩涡」。界面的转换和物质层面与精神层面对立中所产生的「点」，形成了从开始的线与覆盖构成的缝隙到二维世界与三维世界的通道，同时也会把生活的情绪片段纠缠在画面之中。Liu Ke’s work is characterized by the use of vertical lines, which he employs to construct compositions through repeated layering and compression, aiming to reveal the latent tension between objects and space. His creative process involves progressive segmentation, where densely layered vertical lines transition into overlays, gradually reducing gaps. These gaps accumulate focused energy, while collisions between vertical or horizontal blocks evoke a sense of dynamic force. The interplay of abstract symbols and vibrant colors draws viewers into a mysterious and profound artistic “vortex.” The transitions between surfaces and the juxtaposition of material and spiritual dimensions generate critical “points” within his works—these points form pathways from the initial interplay of lines and overlays to a realm that bridges two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds, simultaneously entangling fragments of life’s emotions within the canvas.
